12 Easy Ways to Connect With Your Deity
Devotion to a deity doesn’t have to mean elaborate rituals or spending hours at an altar. There’s no single “right” way to practise devotion. Below are twelve easy ways to incorporate connecting with your chosen deity into your daily life.
Create a Playlist: Put together songs that remind you of your deity, their stories, or the qualities they represent. Play it while you’re getting ready, relaxing, or doing something in their honour.
Share Your Meals: Set aside a small portion of your food or drink for your deity before eating. It can be as simple as sharing your morning coffee or a favourite snack.
Make Your Altar Personal: Your altar doesn’t have to look a certain way. Add handmade decorations, artwork, flowers, symbols, or anything else that feels meaningful to your connection.
Write Them Notes: Keep a small journal where you can write letters, thoughts, questions, or little things you want to share with your deity. Even a quick note about something that reminded you of them can be meaningful.
Say Good Morning and Good Night: Start and end your day with a simple greeting. A quick “good morning” when you wake up and “good night” before bed can become an easy part of your devotional routine.
Cook in Their Honour: Make a meal inspired by your deity’s culture, region, favourite foods, or associations. You can turn it into a full feast or simply make one dish with them in mind.
Support a Meaningful Cause: Donate your time, money, or resources to a cause connected to your deity’s areas of influence. A deity associated with healing might inspire you to support healthcare, while one connected to animals might inspire you to help an animal shelter.
Use Their Symbols Around You: Add symbols, colours, plants, animals, or artwork associated with your deity to your everyday space. You could even use one as your phone wallpaper or lock screen.
Create Something for Them: Make a drawing, poem, craft, piece of jewellery, or other artwork inspired by your deity. It doesn’t need to be perfect, it just needs to be meaningful to you.
Spend Time Learning: Read their myths, history, symbols, and traditions. Learning more about the deity you’re honouring can be a form of devotion in itself.
Take a Moment to Talk: You don’t need a formal ritual every time you want to connect. Talk to your deity while you’re walking, cooking, cleaning, or simply sitting quietly. Share what’s happening in your life and what you’re grateful for.
Keep a Devotional Journal: Record prayers, offerings, dreams, signs, experiences, or things you’ve learned about your deity. Over time, it can become a personal record of your relationship.
